Bandar Seri
Begawan - Some 20 students from Sekolah Rendah Bukit Udal
Tutong made an educational visit to one of the historical centres
located at Kota Batu in the capital yesterday morning.
Led by Cikgu Siah Duraman, Cikgu
Nariah Junidi and Ustazah Hjh Jaidaw I-Ij Koya, the one-hour vksit was
aimed at enhancing the students' knowledge on Brunei's history.
Brunei Museums, which was officially
opened in 1972, is one of the historical places frequently visited.
The building displays a variety of historical artefacts including
natural history, a large collection of elaborately gilded Holy Qurans,
centuriesold Chinese porcelain, ceramics and jade as well as Islamic
artefacts and exhibits of the nation's development and discovery.
According to the teacher, the visit
was related to the subject taught in school and it is an annual visit
for all Class 6 students. At the Natural History Gallery, the students
had an opportunity to have a closer look at the fauna of Brunei
Darussalam. Some of the exhibits are presented in the form of diorama
techniques to create a realistic atmosphere of their natural habitat.
They also visited the Brunei
Traditional Culture Gallery and the Islamic Art Gallery, which is
located at the ground floor. The gallery depicts the collection of
Islamic Art belongings of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam.
The collection comprises a wide range
of objects covering the artistic production of the various Islamic
regions from the transitional and early Islamic periods to the 19'
century. The objects cover all aspects of religious and daily life.
The visit concluded with a photo session. -- Courtesy of Borneo
