People
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A caring women group who call themselves HawaNDP
continued to track impoverished people in the Sultanate to donate food
and daily commodities to tell them that they are not forgotten in this
festive season.
Early this week, the group visited
the house of 36-year-old Dayang Noriah bte Aji in Jalan Pulau Kubu
Jerudong who lives with her fisherman husband, seven children, her
parents and four close relatives.
She said her five-year-old child is
suffering from a heart disease and has been sent twice for treatment
to Kuala Lumpur. Her mother who stays with them too has been suffering
from kidney ailment.
Noriah
said she used to work as a bus conductor for nine months but has to
stop, as she needs to look after her young children. "I was called
four times by a school headmaster who complained that my children did
not perform well. I quit my job so I can help them with their studies
especially the young ones," she said.
She added the children slept in
classes, as they needed to wake up and reached school early before I
reported for work. She then operated a stall in Jerudong but was asked
by the authority to stop doing so as she did not have a licence to
conduct trade.
"My husband does not have a steady
job and catches fish daily to help the family sustain a living.
"My seven children aged between 5 and
18 are still schooling," she said.
Led by the head of Hawa NDP, the
delegation comprises deputy head Halimah Janai and members Pengiran
Hajah Noriah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim, Hasnah Haji Mohamad and Hajah
Armah binti Haji Othman.
According to Halimah Janai, the
project entitled Jejak Ehsan has enabled the group to track down
several impoverished families in the country. -- Courtesy of Borneo
