Graduates Urged To Develop
'Marketability'

Begawan - Graduates who have been given lifelong learning
skills should consistently improve their knowledge and skills in their
career.
Graduates should therefore not only
seek jobs in the country, but should be able to have ideas similar to
those of foreign workers who come to our country to seek jobs, giving
priority to the country's needs so that they will become good
marketable graduates.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of
Education, Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad bin Pg Hj Abd Rahman, in
his speech as guest of honour at the 6th National Convocation Ceremony
for Technical and Vocational Institutions that was held at the Main
Conference Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas,
yesterday.
"I believe this a phenomenon and a
challenge for all of us in the future," the Deputy Minister added.
"This is not impossible so long as there is knowledge and skill." -
Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad
said that among the steps that should be taken by the Department of
Technical Education (DTE) is to do specific research to obtain
information on the needs of the human resource of the local industry.
Such information will be used to identify programmes that are relevant
to the country's needs.
Earlier Acting Director of Technical
Education, Awg, Jamal bin Kahar,-in his speech said, "The DTE will
take' steps to improve its capacity by providing more education
programmes and the technical and vocational training that is needed in
the country.
In yesterday's ceremony, a total of
271 graduates received their diplomas and certificates - 36 of the
graduates were awarded the National Diploma, 51 were awarded the
National Trade Certificate (Grade 2), 152 were awarded the National
Trade Certificate (Grade 3) and 32 were, awarded the National
Vocational Certificate.
The Best Student Award for the Brunei
Darussalam Technical & Vocational Education Council (BDTVEC) went to.
Dyg Siti Rafeah bte Hj Serbini (Pre-National Diploma in Business and
Finance) from the Business School, Dk Nurhazimah bte Pg Asamadi-(NTC3
in consumer electronics) from Nakhoda Ragam Vocaitonal School and Dyg
Masazalenawati bte Jubli (NVC in Clerical Studies (Accounts clerk)
from the Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School.
Among the institutions involved in
the national convocation were Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College,
Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering, Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School,
Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School and Mechanical Training Centre.
Also present at the ceremony were
senior officers and officers from the Ministry of Education, senior
officers from other ministries, parents and guardians of the graduates
