His Majesty Greets Cambodian

Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam yesterday sent congratulatory messages to His Majesty King
Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia on the occasion of the Kingdom's 53rd
Independence Day.
In the message, His Majesty expressed
his satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations and deep
understanding between Brunei and Cambodia at the Asean level.
It is hoped that the relations will
be further enhanced' and maintained.
His Majesty also wished King Norodom
Sihamoni good health and prosperity and also the people of Cambodia to
enjoy continued progress and development.
In a similar congratulatory message,
His Majesty sent best wishes to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to
whom he expressed hope that the relations between the two countries
would continue to be strengthened.
The Cambodian Embassy here revealed
that His Majesty was scheduled to hold an official visit to the
country in December. "We believed that the visit by the Sultanate's
leader to our nation will further strengthen our ties and we thank the
Bruneians for being a wonderful host to Cambodians living here," said
the official.
Meanwhile, His Royal High ness Prince
Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, also sent
congratulatory messages to his Cambodian counterpart, the Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
Hor Nam Hong.
"We value the warm relations between
the two countries and looked forward to continue forging bilateral
ties and their partnership in Asean and the Asia Pacific region, "said
the prince.
Cambodia gained full independence on
November 9, 1953 from the French government following the Japanese
occupation during World War II.
Its diplomatic relations with Brunei
was established on June 9, 1992. The relations were further
strengthened when Cambodia was accepted into Asean on April 30, 1999.
The population of Cambodia stands at
approximately 13 million, with the garment and tourism industry
growing rapidly as the country's main economic sources. --
