Info Dept, Village Heads Meet At Raya Open House

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Information Department yesterday continued its 'Hari Raya Get Together Ceremony with the Director,' this time paying festive visits to the homes of several village heads in Belait District.

Led by Information Department Acting Director Haji Amir Hamzah bin Pehin Dato Haji Zakaria, the group first visited the residence of Kampong Pandan A Village Head Sulaiman bin Haji Udin

The visit then continued to the homes of Pekan Belait Village Head Haji Johari bin Omarali and Kampong Mumong Village Head Haji Yusof bin Dulamin.

The visits were made to allow for the fostering of ties between both parties, and also to enhance cooperation and the exchange of information.

"The Information Department will continue to get involved and foster closer relations with the population through informal and formal activities such as meeting and dialogue sessions," said the Acting Director in a speech.

"It is a process to exhange and share information among one another," he added.

He also touched on the arrangement of the country's development programmes and activities through the government, which will be executed more effectively for the prosperity of the country through the government's oil and gas income and revenue.

"In. terms of education and health, the population is still benefiting from free education and health services.

"Entry to UBD and higher learning institutions has increased. "In terms of health, the government still fully subsidises medical expenses, which include overseas surgeries and medical treatments for patients who are in dire need," he said.

On the subject of housing issues, he said the country has taken on more constructions under the National Housing Scheme. There is also an increase in projects on reparing and improving roads.

The soon-to-be-approved 9th National Development Plan promises more programmes towards the development of the infrastructure of the country, he said.

Additionally, the government has created a positive business environment - through a comprehensive investment service - by setting up SME micro credit scheme, marketing scheme and various assistance as a form of encouragement for agricultural and fisheries entrepreneurs, he added.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
