St Andrew's Student Spells
Perfection In Belta Concert

Begawan - Patricia Chong Su Yin of St Andrew's School snatched
the title in the second Brunei English Language Teachers' Association
(Belta) Spelling Competition when she scored a perfect 10 at the
multipurpose hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
"I didn't really expect to win as the
competition was quite tough," Chong, a primary six student, said after
receiving her trophy. She added, "I'm glad that my teachers from St
Andrew's School were on hand to help me prepare for the tournament."
Chong
also said she would like to become a biologist when she grew up.
Her teacher, Mrs Anil, said that the
team was "very happy that Patricia managed to win by getting a perfect
score in the competition. She showed great composure throughout the
tournament".
She also said, "We trained with
Patricia for three months for the competition.
Meanwhile, in second and third places
were Siti NurAqilah binti Hj Abu Hanafiah of Batu Marang Primary
School and Noor Hazwani binti Awang Mat Kassim of Mata-Mata Primary
School.
On hand to present the prizes to the
winners was Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Education Dayang Hajah Norjum binti Hj Yusop.
Belta
president Cikgu Hjh Aishah binti Hj Muhd Hussain, in her welcoming
speech, said the first spelling competition last year was held in
Belait District, The success of it prompted the association to hold it
again this year, in Brunei-Muara District:
She also said the association is
looking forward to holding the tournament in Tutong and Temburong
districts in the near future.
She added that the second Belta
spelling competition was a culmination of close cooperation and hard
work of headmasters and teachers from five schools that hosted the
preliminary rounds.
"The spelling competition is one way
through which the Belta hopes to cultivate an appreciation of the
