Future Of Postal Industry Discussed At Asean Post CEO Round Table Meet

Bandar Seri Begawan - Matters pertaining to the upcoming - UPU Strategy Conference in Dubai were among the issues discussed at the Asean Post CEO Round Table meeting that took place at The Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong yesterday.

Brunei Darussalam Postmaster General, Hj Abd Kadir Tengah, as co-chairman of the meeting said the meeting was important in many ways as it is a platform for continuous discussion, exchange of information and cooperation for the improvement of postal services in the region.

Furthermore, decisions made during the meeting will chart the future direction of the postal industry in the Asean region. "The Asean Post CEO Round Table meeting serves to provide information or concrete input to be implemented regarding the postal industry," he said, adding that he hoped for a fruitful discussion and debate on the latest issues faced by postal sectors to forward to the Dubai Conference.

The meeting, which Brunei is hosting in conjunction with the Department of Postal Services 100th Anniversary, hopes to achieve its objectives and make important . decisions that will benefit not only postal operators but also its customers.

Yesterday's round table meeting was jointly chaired by host country Brunei and Malaysia. The two countries were represented by Hj Abd Kadir Tengah and Dato `Ikmal Hijaz Hashim respectively.

The meeting began with an update on postal developments by Asean Posts members, who spoke on regulatory issues, restructuring, transformation initiatives, joint ventures and strategic-alliance as well as technical development issues in their respective countries.

After the morning break, discussions on market changes in the postal industry and competitive landscape of the postal industry in the future was held. Also deliberated were the future roles of Asia Pacific Postal Union (APPU), Universal Postal Union (UPU) and APBM.

In the evening, delegates attended the Brunei Darussalam Postal Services 100' Anniversary Gala Dinner at Jerudong Polo Country Club restaurant hosted by Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
