Hefty Fine For Man Who Smuggled
300kg Of Meat

Begawan - A 21-year-old Bruneian man was slapped with a $3,600
fine or in default eight months' jail by the Bandar Magistrate's Court
on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to smuggling 300kg of undeclared
meat in his car.
Tasan
bin Sarbini who is unemployed was caught red handed by a team of
Customs Preventive officers in Kg Limau Manis following a public
tip-off.
The court was told that the officers
managed to apprehend the defendant as hewas unloading the goods.
Officers found 180kg of meat inside the vehicle, while another
120kg-of meat was found near the area where Tasan had unloaded the
goods.
According to the Royal Customs and
Excise Department prosecuting officer, Tasan admitted that he received
$100 from a middleman who had told him to deliver the meat which was
estimated to be worth $1,800.
Meanwhile the same court also fined a
40-year-old Chinese Malaysian man $1,600 or in default six months'
jail after he pleaded guilty to concealing several bottles of
undeclared liquorand cartons of cigarettes in his car.
Ng Swee Phin, who is a father of four
and employed as a plumber with a local company in Seria, admitted to
smuggling 36 bottles of white wine and I 1 cartons of cigarettes in
his car.
The court heard that the liquor was
worth $360, while the cigarettes were worth $190. The smuggled goods
