Limbang Reels In Local Shoppers
With Cheap, Fresh Produce
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Local shoppers continue to head down to Limbang to
purchase fresh produce and dried goods from the ever popular `open
tamu'.
The open tamu has since been
relocated to another corner of Limbang town, which is just a stone's
throw away from Chung Hwa School.
The new location is set in a more
comfortable environment and offers better parking areas. A wide range
of dried food and fresh jungle produce are the most sought after items
among Bruneians.
The place is especially populated on
Thursday and Friday nights as more vendors set up their stalls to
offer an array of goods.
Most of the dried food and vegetables
are brought in from neighbouring districts such as Lawas and Sabah.
The open tamu also offers a taste of local rice, among them Bario
Rice.
All the items sold at the tamu are
cheaper than those found in the Brunei markets, said Haji Ibrahim, a
frequent Limbang visitor.
One of the main reasons why most
Bruneians and foreigners travel to Limbang to shop for their groceries
is because of Brunei's strong currency against the Malaysian ringgit.
It appears that fast food outlets in
Limbang are also highly popular among locals.

holidays it is common to see Brunei registered vehicles dominating the
