Training On Environmental
Management Systems Underway

Begawan - The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS),
an internationally well-known technical cooperation organisation based
in Tokyo, Japan is currently holding a training programme on
Environmental Management Systems.
The programme, which began on
November 6, will finish on November 1 I at the Jefri Bolkiah College
of Engineering (JBCE). It is conducted as an Official Development
Assistance (ODA) project of the Government of Japan and is organised
by SEAMEO VOCTECH in cooperation with JBCE.
Experts from Japan are giving talks
on topics such as `-Cleaner Production Processes and Technologies' and
`Introducing EMS Based on the ISO System' and others. There are 27
people from Asean countries attending the event.
The Ambassador of Japan to Brunei
Darussalam, Mr Itsuo Hashimoto, explained that the objective of
Japan's contribution to this useful training programme is to promote a
wider adoption of cleaner production and environmental management
systems by industries in the Asean region.
The training programme is designed to
help participants from human resource development organisations in
Asean countries to better understand the concept and practices of
cleaner production and to build their capacity to design and implement
training programmes on environmental- management in their respective
organisations.
AOTS
was founded in 1959 with the approval of the Government of Japan as
the country's first organisation to promote technical cooperation in
the private sector.
Since then, AOTS has been
implementing useful training projects to support the development of
human resources for the industrial development in developing
