Student's Dream Becomes A Reality

Bandar Seri Begawan - "The idea of the business plan was my sister's and my own dream as we love to play with hair. I want to pursue my sister's and my own dream," said Leong May Yee, a Form Five secondary student from Pg Jaya Negara Pg. Hj Abu Bakar Secondary School.

Her business plan for Star-Image Hair and Beauty Saloon won her a trophy, a certificate and a $1,000 cash prize in the 2005-2006 Livewire Business Awards category A 1 for upper secondary.

"Livewire promotes ideas to the current generation, who are assets of the nation.

"When I joined the competition, I learned about public speaking, how to present myself to the judges, how to organise work and also how to be creative. The event increased my knowledge in business.

"In Livewire, Bruneians can show their interests and ideas. It should be exposed to all students. I never thought of winning the award. My initial intention was to show people my business idea for my winning. It is an amazing thing," she said.

Meanwhile Haji Md Rano Iskandar Abdullah, awarded in the Brunei Business Livewire category 'B’ said he is proud that his business project was chosen.

"There were only two competitors in our category. I hope in the future, many will take an interest and participate in the Livewire Programme. It is useful for starting a business," he said.
