By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - It was a gloomy Hari Raya for a 65-year-old woman whose house was gutted in flames yesterday morning. Dyg Rosni bte Abdullah was at her paddy field with her two Indonesian workers when fire ravaged her wooden bungalow.

Her daughter-in-law staying nearby saw the two-bedroom house burst into flames and immediately called the fire emergency line at about 8.15 am.

Fortunately no injuries or casualties were reported. Dyg Rosni was staying at the house with her two Indonesian workers at Kg Sungai Lalit, Lumut and owns a paddy and maize field located within the vicinity of her home. Dyg Rosni was devastated as she returned to discover that her house was being reduced to ashes as a result of the fire.

A team of Fire and Rescue personnel led by Deputy Commanding Officer Operation B Supt Mohd Azanisham bin Abdullah were soon deployed at the scene and managed to put out the fire within a short period of time.

Also present at the site were Belait District Officer Awg Hj Mohamad bin Hj Abd Rahman, Ketua Kampong Lumut 1 Awg Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad and JAPE' officials.

The house was located 200 metres away from the main road. The total loss due to the fire was estimated at about B$30,000. One of the workers managed to save his passport while the other didn't. According to a Fire and Rescue official, the fire was an "incendiary incident" as the house had no electrical power source.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
