PEMODA To Ride For Peace
By Mohammad Abdullah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Three members from the Darussalam Motorcycle
Association (PEMODA) will be participating in the Mindanao `ride for
peace' event held annually in the Philippines.
Ex President of PEMODA, Hj Abu Bakar
Hj Md Arshad, Pg Shaminan Pg Hj Mohd Salleh and Hj Maidin Mumin, will
join other motorcycle club members from Borneo to participate in the
Mindanao Ride for Peace programme.
The three will ride from Brunei to
Sandakan via Kota Kinabalu, where they will take a ferry to the port
city of Zamboanga.
"We will be there to observe, and
view what the cities that we visit have to offer. Hopefully we can use
such events to our advantage and organise a similar tour in Brunei
Darussalam," said Hj Abu Bakar.
This is the first time bikers from
Brunei will be participating in such a gruelling road trip. The trio
will be travelling over 4,500 kilometres throughout the event, all of
which will be open road with a few short ferry crossings.
The Mindanao Ride for Peace programme
was first organised two years ago. This year On Any Sunday Riders (OASR)
motorcycle club from Davao, Phillipines, will be organising the event.
Motorcycle clubs throughout the region, including Borneo, have been
invited to participate in the event.
Bikers will be riding through key
cities and municipalities of Digos, Paglas, Isulan Shariff Aguak,
Cotobato City, Camp Abu Bakar, Pagadian, Tangub, Ozamis, Dapitan,
Itigan and Cagayan de Oro City.
The trip will take two weeks, half of
which will be on the road. "The trip alone will be a challenge,
especially when we are on our bikes most of the way navigating the
roads. We will meet with other clubs from Sabah and Sarawak, prior to
leaving Borneo via ferry to the Philippine." said PP Shaminan. -- Courtesy of Borneo
