Crown Prince To Face Appleton

Begawan - His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah,
the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office,
is set to face off against Englishman Darren Appleton today, in the
second Group 10 match of the 2006 World Pool Championship which starts
today in Manila, the Philippines.
According to http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com,
competing for the first time in the World Pool Championship, the most
prestigious and coveted pool tournament in the world, His Royal
Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah will use his experience gained
at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games' 8-Ball doubles, where he was a
semifinalist.
Pitting his skills against Jharome
Pena of the Philippines on Monday, the real test will be against
Pena's compatriot, tenth seeded Francisco Django Bustamante on
Tuesday.
The top two players in the 32
different groups will advance to the knockout stages.
The Philippine International
Convention Center will play host tournament, where 128 players will be
vying to reach the finals
next Sunday and win $100,000 as
champions, out of the record purse of $400,000.
Arriving in Manila on Wednesday for
an official visit, as well as to compete in the 2006 World Pool
Championships, His Royal Highness was accompanied by Her Royal
Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, and
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi.
During the visit, Their Royal
Highnesses would pay a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
at the Malacanang Presidential Palace and attend a welcoming dinner
hosted by the President.
The Philippine International
Convention Center will play host to the 128 players in the tournament,
which will end next Sunday.
Also on the itinerary, His Royal
Highness is expected to visit the National Disaster Coordinating
Council at the Department of national Defence in Manila.
The National Disaster Coordinating
Council serves as the President's main adviser and coordinator on
disaster preparedness programs, operations and rehabilitation. --
