Copyright Warning On Ring Tones
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Local suppliers of ring tones need to ensure that they were not selling pirated products downloaded from the Internet.

Because of copyright infringement, three mobile phone dealers in Malaysia were put out of business two days ago for downloading songs and selling them as ring tones.

Enforcement officers from the Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs seized a laptop from each of the three dealers which contained 7,000 songs downloaded from the Internet.

Local consumers alleged some musical ring tones available here may be unlicenced and therefore illegal.

They urged for local companies to check the legality of the ring tones to avoid being sued by composers and musical companies who are the legal owners of the musical compositions. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
