Thanksgiving For Rise In-Pension Rate

Bandar Seri Begawan - The recent rise in pension rate under the Old Age and Disability Act, by consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has raised appreciation and gratitude not only for senior citizens who have retired, but also those who are still working.

The increase took effect from October 2006, and following the announ cement by His Majesty, the Prime Minister's Office circulated its memo announcing that the pension rate of $200 per month has been increased to $250.

Consultative Committee organised a thanksgiving ceremony in conjunction with the rise of allowance rates for old and disabled people. There are currently a total of 260 recipients in the area.

Present at STKRJ Lambak Kiri Mosque as the function's chief guest yesterday was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Md Zain Hj Serudin, who gave a speech before presenting appointment certificates to new members of the Consultative Committee.

A Dzikir Marhaban was also led by Hj Ismail Hassan before a Doa Kesyukuran by the mosque's Imam. The minister also took time to talk with the senior citizens present and later performed mass Asar prayers together with others in attendance. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
