Outing Turns Ugly For Foursome

Bandar Seri Begawan - What started as a normal outing turned out to be a nightmare for a man whose car caught fire as he and three friends were travelling through Jalan Sungai Kianggeh yesterday afternoon.

According to Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station Deputy Station Officer Hj Saman Haji Saidin, the driver and his friends had initially noted smoke coming out from the engine of the vehicle they were in.

Surprised, the men had little choice but to hastily get out of the car, which caught fire minutes later, sometime around 1.30 pm.

DSO Hj Saman Haji Saidin said the Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call around 1.37 pm, following which a fire engine with six personnel were deployed to the scene.

The personnel arrived around 1.40 pm and were able to douse the fire under three minutes. Thankfully, no injury was reported.

Later, an investigation carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department Investigating Officers revealed that faulty wiring in the engine were to blame. The loss was estimated to stand around B$7,000. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
