Breast Cancer Awareness Talk At
CfBT
By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - At least 10,000 people worldwide die annually of
breast cancer, with 45 reported cases in Brunei each year.
Half of the reported cases are found
to be women under the age of 50; the youngest patient being a
20year-old who only survived for eight months after being diagnosed.
This was stated by general surgeon
and breast cancer expert Dr Hani Trasil during a breast cancer
awareness talk at CfBT yesterday, hosted by Brunei Breast Cancer
Support Group.
"It is important for women to do a
self-breast examination at home on the seventh or ninth day after
their period each moth. Any lump detected should be immediately
reported to the general practitioner," Dr Hani said.
According to the vice-chairperson of
Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group, the association currently has 50
members who are either breast cancer survivors or volunteers.
Later, a breast cancer survivor, SM
Veerasamy, shared her experience with the attendees.
