Finance Officials Attend Quran
Competition To Show Support

Begawan - Officials at the Treasury Department of the Ministry
of Finance gathered at their office yesterday for an event that
brought them away from of their routine activities - attending a Quran
recitation competition where their fellow employees were taking part.

Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abd Rahman bin Haji
Ibrahim, as well as the ministry's permanent and deputy secretaries,
heads of departments, other officers and staff members, listened
attentively to the Quran recitation at the ministry's Theatre Hall.
"Reading and listening to the Quran
brings countless benefits. Muslims are encouraged to read the Quran
frequently as it is the best reading material for the faithful," said
the deputy accountant-general and chairman of the competition, Awg Abd
Hamid Janudin, at the opening of the competition.
Brahim
Mohammad from, the Royal Customs and Excise Department turned out to
be the winner among the male participants.
The 48-year-old father of six who
working as an officer in the cargo examining section, took home $1,000
in cash and a certificate, presented by the Minis
ter
of Finance II. Meanwhile, Dyg Satia Tahir won in the female category
and received a similar cash prize as well as a certificate, which was
also awarded by the Minister of Finance II.

Abdul Hamid said that Brahim and Dyg Satia would represent the
Treasury Department in the upcoming Quran recitation competition,
which will be for the winners of all the departments within the
Ministry of Finance, on November 21.
Each of the first runner-ups at
yesterday's competition received $700 in cash and the third runner-ups
received $500 along with certificates. --
