26 Students Complete Public Speaking Course

Bandar Seri Begawan - Twenty-six students from Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital were presented with certificates for completing a special Youth Leadership Programme sponsored by HSBC Speakers Group, in affiliation with Toastmasters International.

Mr Guy Priestley, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Brunei, presented the certificates to the students. Also present at the presentation event were Rozana Yunos, Toastmasters' Area Governor for Brunei and John Tse Tow, President of HSBC Speakers Group.

The Youth Leadership Programme was developed especially for young people by Toastmasters International, the worldwide public speaking organisation. Seven members of the bank staff volunteered to use their own free time to conduct the programme, by leading group discussions and workshops.

John Tse Tow said that the programme was a very rewarding experience for all the members of HSBC Speakers Group. "The eagerness to learn and the enthusiasm shown by these youths made the programme more intense and full of energy. It is a rewarding experience, such that we are already looking forward to conducting another session of the programme," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Priestley said that the programme provided the students with communication skills which are extremely important in their lives and future career.

"I am glad and very grateful to the members of the HSBC Speakers Group that they decided to adopt this programme. With its completion, we are very pleased to present the students with their certificates," he said.

"These students are full of potential and enthusiasm and hopefully after completing this course, the skills that they have gainedwill assist them in their studies, and they will become more confident in public speaking and when they start their careers will make them confident future leaders," he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
