Brunei Sauce To Spice Up British Palate

Nanning, China - It has been a fruitful trip for Brunei entrepreneurs to the 3rd China-Asean Expo, which was launched on Oct 31 in Nanning, the capital city of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

"The response this year is better compared to last year," said Hj Ilias bin Hj Matusin, Director of Sahamada Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Sahamada Corporation occupies a booth in the Brunei Pavilion which also includes Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Sabli's, e-huawang.com, Mahkota Crystal Sdn Bhd, Semaun Holdings, Noraini's Bakery, Sukma Indera, Musufiya Enterprise, Halaqah Sdn Bhd, Britmart Inflatables, Putri Nis Enterprise, Mokam and Jerudong Park Medical Centre.

"We have secured a potential buyer from England for our products, Cinta Hot Chilli Sauce, Extra Hot and Cinta Dipping Sauce with Smoked Fish," Hj Ilias added.

Cinta is the brand name under Sahamada Corporation which produces seven types of chilli sauce in Brunei.

"We will meet the buyer by the end of November for a potential deal of up to 140,000 bottles per month," Hj Ilias.

Hj Jamudin, Manager of Sabli's, said the company has received an overwhelming response from Chinese buyers compared to last year.

"We have found more serious and potential buyers compared to last year," said Hj Jamudin who had participated in the 2nd CAExpo in 2005.

Despite facing some language problems due to the lack of translators, Hj Jamudin remains optimistic.

"We also received inquiries on some of our products like the Ros syrups' he added.

Hj Jamudin said there will be no taxation barrier if the products were to be exported from Brunei.

"Under the `pioneer status' scheme of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, we can be exempted from taxation," he added. "We hope the China-Asean Free Trade Zone by 2010 will boost the competitiveness of our products in terms of pricing in China."  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
