Repair Works To Improve Road
Safety Underway
By Hussin HJ
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Repair works are underway at Muara-Tutong highway,
close to a site where a fatal road accident occurred recently and
killed a young woman.
According to one of the workers at
the location, the broken barriers will be replaced and extended as far
as the U-turn point of entry upfront as added safety measures to
reduce serious accidents in this accident-prone area.
The move is timely but more repair
works are needed at other potentially dangerous stretches and bends in
an effort to minimise the frequency of road mishaps in the future.
Road users are therefore advised to
heed safety warnings and signs while repair works are being carried
out at the area. In the Sunday's accident, a woman passenger was
killed when a car she was travelling in smashed into a central road
divider.
The driver was reported to have lost
control of the vehicle and rammed it into the safety divider. The car
eventually landed on its side and an exposed metal barrier pierced
through the car.
They were believed to be heading
towards Bandar Seri Begawan when the accident occurred. Many road
users have expressed uneasiness over the gruesome incident and their
grievances were highlighted in the local media on possible loose
safety measures which inadvertently invite unexpected consequences.
