BICTA Winners Head For Competition
In Macau

Begawan - The winners of the Brunei ICT Awards 2006 (BICTA
2006) will be representing Brunei Darussalam at the Asia Pacific ICT
Awards 2006 (APICTA 2006) to be held in Macau, China from November
2-5, 2006.
The Brunei Darussalam's APICTA 2006
Team is led by Haji UmarAli bin Haji Abdullah, Acting Director of
Information Technology, Ministry of Communications.
Haji
Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary at Prime
Minister's Office, as the Chairman of E-Government Strategic, Policy
and Coordinating Group (EgSPEC), was also present at the Brunei
International Airport to officiate the flag-giving ceremony and bid
farewell to the Brunei Darussalam's APICTA Team.
Accompanying the Brunei Darussalam's
APICTA Team are the four judges from BICTA 2006 who will be part of
the judging team from APICTA 2006. They are Dr Yong Chee Tuan and Dr
Jimmy Lim Chee Ming of Universiti Brunei Darussalai, Haji Abdul Rahim
bin Derus of Ministry of Education and Haji Osman bin Haji Ladis of
Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd.
The winners of BICTA 2006 were
announced during the BICTA Gala Night on November 19 this year. They
will be competing against nominees from other countries in the Asia
Pacific region in the categories of Education and Training, Start-Up
Companies, Research and Development, Industrial Application and
Secondary Student Project's. The winners of BICTA 2006 representing
Negara Brunei Darussalam in this year's APICTA are; for Education and
Training - CfBT Education Services (B) Sdn Bhd, for e-Government and
Public Services - e-Suria Mentari Systems Sdn Bhd, for Industry
Applications - Dalplus Technologies, for Start-up Companies -
WestEgret Technology and Services Sdn Bhd, for Research and
Development
The Rumbian Nation and for Secondary
School St George's School. The judging process of APICTA requires the
nominees to conduct a 20-minute presentation about their project which
will be followed by a ten-minute Q & A session. InAPICTA 2004, which
was held in Hong Kong, Teleconsult Sdn Bhd, Brunei Darussalam won a
Special Mention Award for their project ePLATO in the E-Government and
Services category, while APICTA 2005, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand,
while the Special Mention was won by Teleconsult Sdn Bhd, Brunei
Darussalam for the Communication Application category with their
product eTHOR.
The Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA)
is an international awards programme aimed at increasing ICT awareness
in the community and assist in bridging the Digital Divide in the
region. Participants of the Award Programme are members of the APICTA
Network comprising 14 member economies including Australia,
Philippines, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau,
Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
