Brunei For Asian Softball Meet

Begawan - Seventeen softball players and four officials left
for Fukuoka, Japan yesterday for the 8" Asian Men's Softball
Championship from Nov 2-5.
The Brunei team was led by Pg Hj
Jambol bin Pg Hj Sulaiman, Vice-President of Brunei Amateur Softball
and Baseball Association (BASBA).
This is Brunei's first-ever
participation in the competition as they are lined up in Group B
alongside Japan, Indonesia and Thailand while Group A consists of the
Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
Both groups will play on a round
robin format as the top two teams proceed to the semifinal on Nov 4
and the final will take place on Nov 5.
.The Brunei softball team will open
accounts against Indonesia followed by Thailand on the opening day
while their final group game is against host Japan on Nov 3.
According to Pg Hj Jambol: "Our
participation in this tournament is to measure our development in the
sport of softball where at the same time the experience that we are
about to gain will be used to find out what, where and how we can
improve our game."
"We will also use this opportunity to
prepare ourselves for the next edition of the SEA Games where from the
eight participating teams, clearly six are from the South EastAsian
region," added Pg Hj Jambol.
Before their departure, a flag
handing-over ceremony was held at the airport. Special Duties Officer
of the Department of Youth and Sports, Hj Md Zamri bin Dato Hj Hamdani
