Traffic At Checkpoints Return To
Normal
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The scene at the Kuala Lurah and Limbang border
checkpoints has finally returned to normal, following the long queues
witnessed in the run-up to and on the first few days of Hard Raya
Aidilfitri.
Both checkpoints were bogged down
with incoming and outgoing traffic as Bruneians made the last minute
dash to Limbang to stock up for Raya.
Adding to this was the fact that the
school holidays had begun days before the festivities and Bruneians
were also taking the opportunity to visit relatives across the border.
The hectic atmosphere and long queues
slowly subsided Sunday as celebrants made their way back to their
respective homes. Sunday also marked the end of the school break for
students.
Motorists making the journey had to
wait between two and three hours in queue for both Immigration and
Customs clearance.
Though traffic conditions has
returned to normal, border-hoppers can expect to see a repeat of long
queues during the weekend as Bruneians will continue to head to
neighbouring towns for their shopping excursions and festive visits.
