Inmates, Families Meet For Aidilfitri

Bandar Seri Begawan - The inmates of Jerudong Prison, Maraburong Prison, Women's Prison and the Al-Islah Muara Drug Rehabilitation Centre were yesterday allowed visits from family members in conjunction with the Aidilfitri festivities.

The official visit is an annual programme held as part of the rehabilitation process. This allows inmates a chance to strengthen ties with their families, while simultaneously ensuring they still feel a sense of belonging to society.

Additionally, it offers the inmates a chance to seek forgiveness for their loved ones.

The advantage of the programme is that it allows for easier integration back into society after an inmate has served his sentence.

Similar visitations are also held on other festive occasions such as Chinese New Year, Christmas, Hari Gawai and Deepavali.

Besides family visits, inmates also celebrated Hari Raya among themselves within their respective institutions. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
