Newspapers Stolen In Kuala Belait
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Many readers yesterday morning missed Borneo Bulletin
and Media Permata, which were stolen from many outlets in Kuala Belait.
Readers jammed reporters' mobile
phones asking what happened as outlets had earlier told them the
papers had not arrived.
Apparently, thieves picked up the
newspaper bundles left outside the outlets before they were opened up
for business in the morning.
Brunei Press Sdn Bhd sent
replacements quickly.
The papers' circulation
representative in Kuala Belait said nearly 20 percent of both papers
were stolen yesterday.
"Last Saturday, more than 20 percent
of our Kuala Belait circulation was stolen.
"Police reports have been made and
replacements were sent quickly," he said.
A caller said he was surprised when
he could not find his favourite newspapers from various outlets in the
area.
"I was told the papers have not
arrived. But when I went to another outlet, it said the papers have
been sold out.
"In the end the earlier outlets
realised their bundles had been stolen," he said.
Another reader said he subscribed to
Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata from one outlet and was surprised to
be told that the papers have not arrived.
"I pointed out to the outlet that at
another outlet the two papers have been sold out. Then my outlet
realised the papers have been stolen," he said.
"I have been reading the Borneo
Bulletin for over 40 years. I do not wish to miss it even for a day,"
said another reader. -- Courtesy of Borneo
