Forum On Crisis Management

Bandar Seri Begawan - The British High Commission yesterday hosted a Defence Export Services Organisation seminar with the theme Crisis Management and Peace Support Operations.

The one-day seminar featured UK views and experiences and was attended by members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Brunei civil service.

The guest of honour was Pehin Datu Singamanteri Col. (Rtd) Dato Paduka Awg Haji Mohd Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Deputy Minister of Defence.

Nick Gibbons, Chief Counter Terrorism Policy Adviser at the UK Cabinet Office, spoke on "The UK government's structure for crisis management".

Colonel Paul Kel let, Director of Studies, Peace Support Operations Training Centre, Sarajevo, Bosnia, spoke on "Training soldiers to be effective on peace support operations. Lt Col Tim Warrington, Commander of British Garrison, Brunei, spoke on "Personal experiences in how the UK military performs peace support operations".

The seminar aimed to further develop bilateral ties between Brunei and the UK and to provide a forum for debate and discussion. High-level contact was made to ensure sharing of ideas and information continues into the future. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
