Worker Held For Violating Work
Permit

Begawan - A 40-year-old Filipino worker was held on Saturday on
suspicion of violating work permit regulations.
The Law Enforcement Section of the
Immigration Department said investigation showed he never worked with
a local construction company, which sponsored him. He was taken to the
immigration department for further questioning. The arrest was made
during a spot check on a house under renovation on Jalan Maulana.
Another Filipino who employed the
worker was issued a special pass and ordered to come to the department
for further investigation. Both men can be charged for violation of
immigration laws, if found guilty.
The immigration department reminded
employers not to let their workers take up freelance jobs or place
them to work with other employers.
The Law Enforcement Section said it
will always be on the lookout and will hold inspections from time to
time. It encourages the public to report immigration offenders to the
