His Majesty Meets Three Leaders In
Nanning, China

China - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin
Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, held
bilateral summits with the prime ministers of China, Thailand and Laos
after the opening of the 3rd China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) and the China-Asean
Business Investment Summit (Cabis) here yesterday.
His Majesty accompanied by His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at
Villa No 10 of the Liyuan Resort.
After meeting with the Chinese
leader, the Sultan held bilateral meetings at his villa with
Thailand's Prime Minister General Surayud Chulanont and Prime Minister
of Laos Bouasone Bouphayanh.
His Majesty also had audience with
Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Lu Bing at his villa.
His Majesty said he was pleased with
the overall progress of Asean-China relations, while also welcoming
the proposed establishment of an Asean-China centre.
His Majesty said he regarded this as
a symbol of what China and Asean were trying to achieve, not only in
trade and investment but also in cultural affairs.
Prior to the opening of the expo, His
Majesty toured around the pavilions of the Asean's 10 member
countries. Besides Brunei, Asean also groups Cambodia, Indonesia,
Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam.
At the Brunei's Pavilion, His Majesty
observed 23 Chinese sunken treasure artifacts along with exhibits
displayed by Bruneian enterprises from various sectors.
The Caexpo was launched with
presentation of a video witnessed by the Chinese and Asean leaders,
which was followed with the placing of 11 pearl replicas symbolised
the 15 years anniversary of the China-Asean relations. The replicas
were brought out by 15-year-old youths.
Sponsored by the Commerce Ministry of
China and trade economic authorities. of the ten Asean members, the
Expo has participation of a total of 2,100 companies.
His Majesty also attended the opening
of the 3rd Cabis with other Leaders at the Conference Hall of Guangxi.
His Majesty departed China yesterday
for Brunei Darussalam. --
