Brunei, S Korea To Enhance
Industrial, IT Cooperation
Busan
- His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam yesterday held bilateral talks with President of the
Republic of Korea, Roh Moo-hyun, including efforts to enhance
cooperation in the field of industry and information technology.

The meeting was held at one of the
leading hotels in Busan.
At the meeting, His Majesty
thanked the President for the hospitality accorded to His Majesty
and delegation and congratulated the President for his leadership
and chairmanship of this year's APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM).
His Majesty and President Roh
Moo-hyun noted the excellent relations that exist between the two
countries.
Both leaders also discussed other
bilateral issues particularly efforts to enhance relations between
Brunei and the Republic of Korea in areas such as industrial and
IT cooperation.
During the Meeting, His Majesty
invited the President to visit Brunei at a convenient time.
His Majesty thanked the President
for the invitation to visit the Republic of Korea on a date to be
mutually agreed. |

Both leaders also discussed regional
issues particularly efforts to enhance cooperation between Asean
and the Republic of Korea.
They also discussed other
international issues of mutual concern.
The President expressed
appreciation for the support given by Brunei to the Republic of
Korea in many of the international fora.
Present at the talks were
Minister of Energy in the Prime Minister's office, Pehin Dato
Awang Haji Yahya; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin
Dato Lim Jock Seng; Ambassador-Designate of Brunei Darussalam to
the Republic of Korea, Dato Haji Harun; and Awg Lim Jock Hoi,
Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

His Majesty arrived Wednesday night
in Busan to attend the 13th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting.
On arrival at Gimhae Air Base, His
Majesty was greeted by Ambassador Chun Boo-kwan, Ambassador-at-Large
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea,
Mr Kim Ku-hyun, Vice Mayor of Busan, and General Lee Kang-da,
Commander of Gimhae Air Base. Also present was Dato Haji Harun.
The 13th AELM, chaired by President
Roh, will be held today and tomorrow under the theme "Towards One
Community: Meet the Challenge, Make the Change".
The meeting will be held in two
Retreat Sessions. In addition to that, the APEC leaders will also have
a meeting with members of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
His Majesty will also attend the Asean-US Leaders Meeting.
At the first Retreat Session, the
APEC leaders are expected to focus their discussions on advancing free
trade such as the Doha Development Agenda, trade and investment
liberalisation, facilitation as well as the Busan Roadmap to Bogor.
Discussions at the second Retreat
Session will focus on a safe and transparent Asia-Pacific such as
counterterrorism, the avian influenza, disaster preparedness, energy
security and anti-corruption.
As in previous AELMs, the leaders in
Busan will adopt the Busan Declaration.
The Declaration, among others, will
reaffirm the APEC Leaders' commitment to deepen the shared vision of
achieving stability, security and prosperity for the people to achieve
the long-term goal of free and open trade and investment; to ensure a
transparent and secure business environment; and to bridge the various
gaps and differences in the region. --
