E-Learning, ICT Vital To Quality
Education
By Zalia Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - E-learning and the implementation of ICT in schools
have become vital issues for teachers and educators.
ICT
can be seen as a continuum in schools, beginning with access to
computers, progressing through access to the Internet and networking,
equipping teachers and students with ICT skills, and ending with the
full integration of ICT into teaching and learning.
This was highlighted by course
coordinator at the recent e-learning workshop, Chong Jon Fong, during
the certificate presentation ceremony yesterday morning at Sekolah
Menengah Pehin Dam Seri Maharaja, Mentiri (SMPDSM).
More than 20 teachers from various
schools received certificates of participation following the
completion of an e-learning course, organised by SMPDSM.
Present as the guest of honour was
the Acting Director of Schools. Ministry of Education, Dyg Hjh Norjum
bte Hj Yusop.
SMPDSM
has been holding ICT workshops and training courses for teachers, in
line with the concept of life-long learning and the Ministry of
Education's aspiration.
The programmes have led to an
improvement in ICT skills and capability to develop the concepts of
e-lessons among educators.
Principal Tan Lian Lian, in her
speech, said the school would continue to support the development of
ICT to ensure SMPDSM offers quality education.
Coordinator Chong said an educational
system that ignores technology will not be able to prepare students
for the world they are living in. There is, thus, a need for the
system to help students learn to use the tools available effectively.
He added, however, the implementation
of ICT in schools will only be successful if teachers are willing to
integrate the technology into the learning process.
He hoped the teachers, after
attending the workshop, understood the aspiration of the Ministry of
Education and ensure changes be made to improve learning among
students.
He also urged them play a part in the
development of e-lessons, by passing on their knowledge to fellow
teachers. --
