Cyber Terrorism Targets Brunei
Bank, But No Cause For Worry Says GM

Begawan - Baiduri Bank has received an extortion threat from an
international cyber group with Eastern European connections, claiming
to have accessed information pertaining to its customers.
Mr
Pierre Imhof, the bank General Manager in a circular to customers
added that such threats are not new and more and more financial
institutions and commercial companies worldwide are now targeted by
such groups.
“The Bank's strategy is clear. We
will not let our customers or the Bank become victims of cyber
terrorism.
“We will not enter into negotiation
or any kind with such parties. The bank immediately lodged a report
with the Royal Brunei Police Force and will continue to cooperate with
law enforcement authorities, both focally and internationally, Mr
Imhof added.
After an immediate and exhaustive
investigation, we can confirm that this group's access was limited. As
a precautionary measure, we have suspended our Internet and mobile
banking operations, the bank circular added.
“We can also confirm that we have,
further tightened internal security procedures with the assistance of
international IT Security experts to stop similar attempts in the
future.
“Rest assured your money is safe and
your account balances have not been affected. All current banking
services are operating normally at our branches and ATMs. None of our
customer transactions have been affected and all future transactions
will continue to be processed in a safe and secure environment,
protected from external parties.
The Management of the bank very much
regrets this incident. This group may attempt to communicate with you,
but we advise you not to communicate by any means with loan or third
parties regarding information about your personal or financial
details, the circular added.
