By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - Five Indonesian nationals, aged between 23 and 34 years-old, who pleaded guilty to stealing aluminium pipes weighing 1,780 kilos, were each fined $1,500 or 2 months imprisonment in default of payment, by the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Samio Sandiwirya, 34, Sunarna, 25, Edi Suriadi, 27, Ali Anwar, 31, and Andy Taufik, 23, are all employees of Hasbullah Daud Sdn Bhd, where they work as labourers.

Prosecuting Officer Pg Nina Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin said on the October 25 this year at about 11:30 am, the defendants took the aluminium pipes from the Hasbullah Daud site that they were working on without the permission of their employers.

She said the defendants told Sugiyana, the driver from the Hasbullah Daud building site, to take the aluminium pipes to be sold at Syarikat Perindustrian Dan

Perkembangan, to which he agreed.

The defendants loaded a lorry with the registration number BN4238 belonging to the company Sugiyana then drove the said lorry to the place where they were to sell the aluminium.

Pg Nina Jasmine said the defendants managed to sell the aluminium for $124 and the money was then divided between all of them.

The foreman of the Hasbullah Daud site, Goh See Siing saw the lorry being driven off the site with the stolen aluminium. At about 1:20 pm on the same day, Goh asked Sugiyana what he was doing with the aluminium and he told him that the defendants had asked him to sell the aluminium at the said company, which he did so and has passed the sale proceeds to the defendants.

The defendants were then arrested on the same day, where they confessed to the offence to the police, said Pg Nina Jasmine yesterday. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
