Halal Enforcers Launch Surprise
Spot Checking On food Stalls
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Officers from the Religious Law Enforcement Agency
conducted a surprise visit on Ramadan food stalls near the Hassanal
Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.
The surprise checks were carried out
on stalls to inspect dubious food like chicken and meat. Officers from
the Halal Permit Importation Board carried these out in four
districts.
The stall operators and vendors are
reminded not just to ensure the food is clean and healthy but also to
make certain the food is halal according to Islam.
The inspection was designed to avoid
irresponsible activity of selling dubious meat and chicken, which were
obtained from unrecognised outlets and not approved by the Permit
Importation Board.
During the inspection, many of the
stall operators and vendors were able to produce their receipts on
purchase of chicken and meat.
The effort was not meant to create
any inconvenience. Instead it was to ensure that food delicacies are
genuinely halal and safe for Muslims to consume.
Concerned authorities have reminded
that any attempt to sell dubious meat and chicken is an offence and
offenders can be fined a maximum of $2,000.
Hence, stall operators and vendors
are advised to bring along with them their purchase of receipts of
meat and chicken any time during business hours. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
