Malays Comprise 60% Of Drug
Offenders In Belait District
Kuala Belait –
More than 60 per cent of the drug arrests in the Belait
District are Malays.
And those actively involved in drug
trafficking cases are between 25 and 30 years old.
These startling facts were revealed
during a symposium on tackling social issues currently held in the
Belait District.
Records also showed that the number
of drug trafficking cases in the Belait District this year remained
the same compared to last year’s figures.
From January to September this year,
there were 145 arrests compared to 143 made throughout last year.
Awang
Adnan bin Haji Hanafia, Belait District Officer, launched the
symposium yesterday.
Nine working papers will be tabled
during the three-day symposium.
Matters pertaining to the involvement
of youth in social activities in economy and building of society as
well as in drug menace will be discussed.
Drug menace is one of the social
problems being faced by most nations globally.
The symposium is aimed at instilling
awareness in the society on social problems in the country besides
seeking ways on how to deal with them effectively.
During the symposium, the
participants who come from various walks of life in Belait will hear
and discuss several topics which focus on youth.
