Jail And Fine For Employers Who
Won’t Give Workers Particulars
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Employers refusing to furnish the Labour Department
with particulars regarding their employees will be fined $2,500 and
could serve a jail term of six months.
Dayang
Asmawati Binti Haji Mohd Yusuf, Acting Assistant Planning Officer of
the Research and Planning Section, issued this reminder as the
deadline for employers to do so is fast approaching.
She reminded the employers that the
annual census for the year 2003 is now due for submission.
Employers are advised to return all
forms or diskettes to the research and planning section or to any of
the department's district branches before November 30.
She said that any employer who
refuses or neglects to do this without any lawful excuse will face the
penalty under the law.
Under the Employment Information Act
1974, it is an offence if an employer wilfully refuses to give
particulars as required by the Labour Census.
The annual labour census of employers
and employees is designed to collect data on wages, rate earnings and
workings hours.
She said the information given will
help the Labour Department in planning and amending labour policies
and relevant points in the future. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
