Raid On Dubious Ramadhan Stalls
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Officers from a religious law enforcement agency
yesterday afternoon conducted a surprise visit to Ramadhan food stalls
near the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium to look for any dubious
food sold like chicken and meat, RTB reported.
Officers from the Halal Permit
Importation Board reminded the stall operators not to just ensure that
their food is clean and safe for consumption but also halal.
The inspection was held to prevent
irresponsible vendors from selling dubious meat and chicken, which
could have been obtained from unrecognised outlets, which were not
approved by the Halal Permit Importation Board.
During the inspection, many of the
stall operators were able to produce their receipts of purchase of
chicken and meat, RTB said.
The measure was taken not to create
any inconvenience but to ensure that the delicacies are genuinely
halal and safe for consumption.
The authorities warned that any
attempt to sell dubious meat and chicken is an offence, which could be
punished with a maximum fine of $2,000. Stall operators were advised
to bring along their receipts of purchase of meat and chicken during
their business hours. --
