Online Game Makes Many Panda Eyes
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - “C&C: Generals”, a PC multiplier online strategy war
game, hooks trigger-happy Bruneians glued to the Internet network
games.
This is one of the online game
original titles raking in good sales.
The game’s expansion pack, “C&C
General: Zero Hour” is so popular, local shops had to re order the
title a first few days after hitting the shelves.
“We just need to get more of them,”
said a shop manager.
To play with million of others on the
Internet, you need an original copy for its serial number which can
only be used for a single CD.
The ISP Brunet is also seeing the
popularity of online gaming swell, due to the broadband service.
Although the broadband price in
Brunei is massive compared to other countries, it does not deter the
online gamers here.
The C&C: Generals is the first Real
Time Strategy (RTS) title to be presented in full 3D. The game
involves the United States and China versus a rogue terrorist-like
state, the Global Liberation Army (GLA).
The GLA cell network is so powerful
and so organised it is the army of choice of C&C General players.
C&C General, developed by EA and
Westwood, is the most sought after game.
Playing with and against millions of
“allies” and “opponents” across the globe, online games cannot run
using pirated copies.
According to Hua Ho Department Store,
the sale of computer games has increased considerably. Many people
believe computer games that feature online gaming capability have a
massive market in the country.
Age of mythology is another title
making headway on online gaming in Brunei ever since the introduction
of broadband Internet services.
Gamers say the game improves their
computer skills and familiarity with the Internet.
However, some parents feel the
negative effects of C&C Generals far outweigh the pros. Young people
play the game at the expense of sleep and studies, they say.
