A group of 34 civil service administrative officers from Singapore, led by Ms Phoon Lee Chaeng, the Director of Personnel Policy at Singapore Prime Minister's Office, was in Brunei for a two-day visit from November 5-6.

As part of the 22nd Foundation Course Programme, organised by the Singapore Civil Service College for young administrative service officers, the aim was to expose the course participants to the structure, economy and culture of various Asean countries.

Through such visits, it was envisaged that the participants would have a better understanding and awareness of Asean countries including Brunei.

During the visit, senior officials from the Brunei Civil Service gave briefings to the visiting delegation at the Singapore High Commission.

The Permanent Secretary from Brunei Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pengiran Dato Osman gave a talk on 'Overview of Brunei's Foreign Policy.'

Pengiran Dato Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs gave the participants a presentation entitled 'Islam and Society: A Brunei Perspective.' A briefing on Brunei's economical challenges and future prospects was delivered by Dato Wahab, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.

The course participants also heard from the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Hazair on 'Brunei Civil Service: Future Challenges.'

The group also had a glimpse of the Bruneian life and some of the tourist attractions during their stay.

Singapore High Commissioner HE Mr V. P. Hirubalan and Mrs Mano Hirubalan received the group at the Singawakil yesterday afternoon before the group departed Brunei following a fruitful visit.

The visit underscored the strong tie that exists between the civil services of Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
