A group of 34 civil service administrative officers from
Singapore, led by Ms Phoon Lee Chaeng, the Director of Personnel
Policy at Singapore Prime Minister's Office, was in Brunei for a
two-day visit from November 5-6.
As part of the 22nd Foundation
Course Programme, organised by the Singapore Civil Service
College for young administrative service officers, the aim was
to expose the course participants to the structure, economy and
culture of various Asean countries.
Through such visits, it was
envisaged that the participants would have a better
understanding and awareness of Asean countries including Brunei.
During the visit, senior
officials from the Brunei Civil Service gave briefings to the
visiting delegation at the Singapore High Commission.
The Permanent Secretary from
Brunei Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pengiran Dato Osman gave a
talk on 'Overview of Brunei's Foreign Policy.'
Pengiran Dato Yusof, the
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs gave
the participants a presentation entitled 'Islam and Society: A
Brunei Perspective.' A briefing on Brunei's economical
challenges and future prospects was delivered by Dato Wahab, the
Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.
The course participants also
heard from the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's
Office, Dato Hazair on 'Brunei Civil Service: Future
Challenges.'
The group also had a glimpse of
the Bruneian life and some of the tourist attractions during
their stay.
Singapore High Commissioner HE
Mr V. P. Hirubalan and Mrs Mano Hirubalan received the group at
the Singawakil yesterday afternoon before the group departed
Brunei following a fruitful visit.
The visit underscored the
strong tie that exists between the civil services of Brunei
Darussalam and Singapore.
