By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Committee of National Tug-of-War last Friday organised its first ever Indoor tug-of-war competition, which follows the international system used by the International Tug-of-War Federation (TWIF) at Muhibbah Hall in Berakas. The competition was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 63rd birthday Anniversary.

The Technical Committee of the National Tug-of-War in collaboration with Brunei-Muara District Office and Negara Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association invited 10 selected teams, but only five teams responded to the challenge.

In the competition, Persatuan G-16 Jerudong emerged as champions gaining 12 points after winning all their matches. Second place went to Ministry of Development with 9 points, third place to Royal Brunei Police with 6 points, and Prison Department in fourth place with 3 points and Mukim Lumapas in 5th place with no points.

The National Tug-of-War technical committee member Pg HM lskandar Shah bin Pg Haji Jadid

said the winning team will automatically represent the country in the upcoming Asean Invitational Tug-of-War competition to be held in Singapore in June.

He said the competition was aimed at introducing the indoor tug-of-war sport using the international system. The organising committee hopes that through the competition they can encourage the younger generation to participate and understand the system used at the international level.

Present to witness the competition was Co-Chairman of the National Tug-of-War competition Pg Haji Jadid bin Pg Haji Omarali and Dr Chan Hiang Heng @ Sui Kiat.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
