"Online cake shops are
very common in many countries so I wanted to try whether
it would work in Brunei. Brunei has quite a high
penetration of IT users so I thought there is a chance
it might work".
"In addition, having a
website also serves as a place to let new customers who
have never visited our retail shop to be made aware of
our products. An online cake shop offers an additional
channel to reach customers and to serve as a marketing
platform to showcase our products and promotions. I
wanted to start an online cake shop about six months ago
but didn't have the time to start it. An opportunity to
create the website arose about two months ago so that is
when we started creating our online cake shop,
www.breadstopbakery.com," he told the Bulletin.
When asked why he sees
the need for an online bakery in Brunei, the manager
replied, "Many countries have already embraced this
trend due to the convenience that online shops offer.
Customers don't have to travel so far just to shop thus
saving time and money.
"Businesses in Brunei
usually open more branches just to offer that
convenience to customers. But it's a very expensive and
risky method as their operational costs will increase by
a lot and managing multiple shops is complicated and
requires more resources.
"Many businesses tend
to open too many branches and in the end, they have to
close down their branches due to the high overhead. So
for me, having an online store allows me the option to
reach out to more customers without incurring those
expenses associated with opening a branch."
But having said that,
Albert also realises that online bakery is very new and
Bruneians might not be able to accept it due to various
reasons such as online security factors.
Therefore, the website
is designed in a way that no money transaction is
involved in the website. The customer pays when he/she
collects the cake in Breadstop Bakery retail shop or pay
when delivery is made.
On the terms and
conditions for delivery, Albert explained that delivery
can be made up to 10 minutes drive from its retail shop
which includes places like Bandar Seri Begawan, Beribi,
Berakas, Gadong, Kiulap, Old Airport Road and Serusop.
"We do phone
verification on every order placed online so if a
customer is unsure whether we can deliver to their
place, we will call them to confirm," he added.
Customers can order
cakes by visiting www.breadstopbakery.com via three
simple and easy steps or by calling Breadstop Bakery
retail outlet.
All items can be
delivered directly to the customer's home or office thus
saving customers the time and hassle of collecting their
cakes. --
