Filipina Jailed For 948-Day Illegal Stay

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday sentenced a Filipina to three months and four weeks behind bars after she pleaded guilty to remaining in Brunei Darussalam for 948 days with an expired Social Visit Pass.

Sitti Patimah Karim Barik, 44, who is from Tipo-Tipo, Basilan Province was arrested two days ago at a stall in the vicinity of Simpang 232, Kampong Kapok.

The defendant failed to produce any valid travel documents and was arrested by the Enforcement Section personnel.

The Immigration Prosecuting Officer said the defendant had last entered Brunei Darussalam on September 10, 2006.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant admitted in her statement that she handed over her passport to an individual named 'Amy' in order
