HM Gives Away Prizes To Winners Of
Quran Contest

Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam last night consented to present prizes to the winners of
the National Level Al-Quran Recital Competition for Adults 2008
Awangku Mohd Adibul Amin Pengiran Hj Marjuki and defending champion
Nurfaezah Hj Emran, topped other contenders in the male and female
categories respectively.
They each received cash prize of
$5,000, a Haj flight ticket and certificate of participation. First-
and second- runner ups received a trophy, prize money of $3,000 and
$2,000 respectively, as well as a return flight ticket and
certificate of participation.
Consolation prizes were also awarded
trophies, prize money of $1,000 and certificates of participation.
Also in attendance at the event
held at the Plenary Hall of the International Conference Centre were
His Royal Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah and His Royal Highness
Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
Out of the eight finalists, two were last
years' champion in the Qari and Qariah categories who were allowed
to participate at this year's finals.
In commenting the readers'
performance when announcing the winners, Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka
Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Salim Haji Besar, the Chief
Judge of the competition said that the male readers proved to have
done better than their female counterparts.
He also urged the participants to
work harder to improve the quality of their readings and to work on
their mistakes.
The announcement was followed with
the recitation of the al-Quran by an invited Quran reader from
Malaysia, Ince' Abdul Aziz, who was the champion of the 49th
International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition.
In an interview with The Brunei
Times, Ak Muhd Adibul Amin, 21, expressed his happiness at being
able to win the coveted award. But at the same time he admitted that
he still need to improve in his tajuid and vowed to work on it.
With regards to his next
competition where he will be representing Brunei at the 50th
International Tilawah Al-Quran competition, Ak Muhd Adibul Amin said
that he will make all the necessary preparations such as working on
his voice, breathing techniques, and of course the tajuid and
pointed out that he would be glad to participate should the Ministry
of Religious Affairs hold a workshop to assist him in any way. -- Courtesy of
