IT Learning Crosses Boundaries
By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - The teacher's role in the teaching and learning process has been greatly improved through the use of ICT, said Awang Othman bin Hj Simbran, the head of the International Affairs Unit, Ministry of Education.

ICT expands learning beyond the four walls of the school and classroom, and the physical separation between students and teachers due to distance, social, economic and geographical barriers, said Awang Othman, who is also the Deputy Chairperson II for the 2nd Regional Workshop on ICT Integration training of the Next Generation of Teachers.

"ICT is cross-cutting the entire education reform of many economies, a critical element in achieving issues which include education for all, equality of educational opportunity, life long learning, education for human rights and the positive role of ICT in achieving 211 century competency," he said.

Seventy workshop participants received their certificates of completion from Dk Hjh Nastoli binti PSI Pg Hj Ismail, Director Generall of Education, and Deputy Chairperson I.

Trainer Les Foltos of Puget Sound Centre highlighted three important points from the workshop: Collaboration, continuously working together and keeping contact with each other.

"It is critical for participants that when they get back to work and get stuck on a problem, they can contact each other for assistance."

Participants came from Malaysia, China, Lao PDR, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and host Brunei Darussalam. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
