Bandar Seri
Begawan - Upcoming oil exploration activities at onshore
Block M, covering 3,011 square kilometres mainly within the Labi
area in Belait District and southern part of Tutong district were
disclosed in a meeting with the Belait village chief and heads
yesterday morning.
The meeting organised by consortium
member of Block M, TAP Energy (Borneo) gave a detail explanation of
oil exploration under the Phase One plan at Block M. The meeting
also sought suggestions from the village chief and heads.
PetroleumBRUNEI
Business Asset Manager, Haji Iskandar bin Haji Yahya, said it is
managing the onshore area of Block L and M and offshore Block J and
K, allocated by His Majesty's government to maintain continuous
petroleum supply as well as be active in downstream projects
relating to the oil and gas industry.
He noted that PetroleumBRUNEI had
entered into an agreement with TAP Energy; Triton Borneo, ChinaOil
USA and Jana Corporation Sdn-Bhd to conduct exploration activities
at Block M in 2006 and with the discovery of new oil fields, it
would boost the economic oil and gas activities and adding to the
nation's petroleum reserves.
TAP Energy Chief Geophysicist Awg
Suni bin Sulaiman briefed the meeting on the history of Block M
where exploration began in the early 1900s which led to the first oil discovery in Brunei at the
Belait 2 Well. But exploration was brought to halt in the late
1980's due to the low oil prices.
To fully explore the hydrocarbon
prolific reservoirs on the Block M acreage, Phase One work
programmes include 2D Seismic Reprocessing; aero-magnetic and
gravitational works; 3D Seismic research and drilling at 'Appraisal'
oil well.
The briefing focused more on
aero-magnetic and gravitational works which will be carried out from
July to August 2008 to determine the condition and the municipality
profile of Baram Delta and to increase the list of candidates and
leads which potentially have oil and gas reservoirs based on
aero-magnetic and gravitational works. -- Courtesy of Borneo
