Their Majesties Witness Jungle

Begawan - The Royal Brunei Armed Forces showcased their
talents in two special demonstrations for both His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme
Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and His Majesty
King Abdullah II bin Al, Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of
Jordan.
Their Majesties yesterday toured
military installations in Temburong and Pulau BaruBaru on the second
day of the Jordanian monarch's state visit to Brunei Darussalam to
witness, first a jungle warfare demonstration, before a maritime
demonstration yesterday morning.
Upon their arrival at the Royal
Brunei Airforce Base in Riniba, 'Their majesties were greeted by the
Deputy Minister of Defence, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri
Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin Haji Umar, the
Commander of the RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major
General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Haji Md Yussof and the
Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force (TUDB) Brigadier General
Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud Haji Saidin.
Prior to departing for their first
stop, His Majesty the Sultan and His Majesty King Abdullah II took
in a flight briefing before embarking to the Special Force Regiment
(SFR) Royal Brunei Armed Forces in Temburong, via Blackhawk.
Upon arrival at the 204A Landing
Point in Temburong District, both monarchs were briefed on the
demonstration by Colonel Harith bin Haji Abd Karim, Commanding
Officer of the Special Force Regiment, before witnessing a special
jungle demonstration by the Special Force Regiment.
His Majesty the Sultan and His
Majesty King Abdullah II then took the opportunity to see the
training sites as well as further demonstration before making their
way to Pulau Baru-Baru.
Once there Special Force Regiment
Maritime Demonstrations were carried out after a briefing by the
Commander of Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF), Colonel Pengiran Dato
Paduka Haji Rosli Pengiran Haji Chuchu. Before leaving the military
installations both Their Majesties were presented with a royal
pesambah.
On Tuesday, His Majesty the Sultan
discussed with His Majesty King Abdullah II ways to bolster
bilateral ties and issues of concern to the Islamic world.
The two leaders also agreed to go
ahead with signing agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in the
economic, tourism and defence fields.
Their Majesties also reviewed
progress in implementing deals already signed by the two sides
concerning investment, education, academic and professional
cooperation, Islamic affairs and maritime transportation.
His Majesty King Abdullab II also
underscored the defence cooperation between Jordan and the
sultanate, which has expressed interest in buying defence equipment
developed by the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB).
Previously Brunei Defence officials
visited SOFEX, which was held in Amman, Jordan, last month, and had
a first-hand look at KADDB's offers.
They also discussed the situation
in Iraq and efforts exerted to restore stability and security. His
Majesty King Abdullah II, like His Majesty the Sultan, also attended
the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom as a
cadet.
His Majesty King Abdullah II
retains close links with the British , Army and is the
Colonel-in-Chief of The Light Dragoons, a tank regiment.
His Majesty King Abdullah II took
full command of the Jordanian special forces in November 1993,
becoming a Major General, which he commanded until 1996, when he was
instructed to reorganise the special forces and other special units
under the special operation command SOCOM.
Upon assuming his constitutional
powers as King of Jordan, he became the commander-in-chief.
His Majesty King Abdullah II holds
the ranks of Field Marshal in the Jordan Arab Army and Marshal of
