Financial Roadshow On National Spending

Bandar Seri Begawan - A financial roadshow organised by the Ministry of Finance was held yesterday at its lecture theatre.

Among those present were the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Hj Jemat Bin Hj Ampal, and several senior officers at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Defence.

Dato Paduka Awg Hj Ali bin Haji Apong, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, said it aimed to share the objectives of the national spending for year 2008/2009, and inform on the allocation, challenges and issues, and steps to improve the spending system that is and will be executed.

To achieve long term national planning, the focus of national spending for 2008/ 2009 is concentrated on developing the safety and welfare of the public, develop and strengthen the private sector, develop productivity and efficiency in producing human resources that is capable and develop the government sources and smart spending to ensure the fiscal situation is durable.

He said the Ministry of Finance, assisted by BAG Networks Sdn Bhd, will be able to make changes on the TANS of any department that would be able to distribute the allocation.

He highlighted the importance of cost cutting and not depending solely on oil and gas production as it is a deplete table resource.

He called on heads of department to ensure that the revenue is collected on time and to avoid delays in collection.

Awg Hj Nazmi bin Hj Mohammad, Acting Director of Expenditure, presented a briefing on the spending for 2008/2009.
