Brunei On Track To Fully Utilize
ICT In Schools
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei Darussalam is on track, running alongside
its neighbours in the region in the pursuit of achieving quality
education through the use of Information and Communications
Technology (ICT) in schools.
Acting Minister of Education
Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pengiran Hj Abdul Rahman
reassured that the ministry is making every effort to fully utilise
ICT in every aspect of teaching and learning activity through the
e-Education Project.
The acting minister stated this
during the opening ceremony of the Second Regional Workshop on ICT-Integration
Training for the Next Generation of Teachers at the Chancellor Hall
of Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
He said the e-Education project
includes the provision of schools' ICT infrastructure, provision of
ICT being integrated into the curriculum, teacher training, pedagogy
and the need to train all the teachers to acquire basic competency
and skills in ICT by providing them with International Computer
Driving License (ICDL), ICT courses and the use of the interactive
White Board.
According to a research by the
ministry's Department of ICT, the equipment has had a positive
impact on the teaching and learning of most subjects and enhanced
the motivation of students.
In line with the 21st century
Education System (SPN21) and the ministry's 2007-2011 Strategic
Plan, the use of ICT as a teaching and learning tool was described
by the acting minister as "critical and takes a central role in
enhancing teaching and learning processes". Subjects will also make
use of ICT and call for teachers to keep their students abreast with
advancements in ICT, and equip them with the skills for more
creative learning.
Under Director of Asia and Pacific
Regional Bureau for Education Unesco Bangkok, Sheldon Shaeffer; the
Next Generation of Teachers Project expects that by 2008, all
regional member states will be able to best use techniques for
teaching and learning through training integrated in national
pre-service teacher training institutes in the Asia-Pacific region.
It is hoped learners will benefit
from well-educated teachers. (NAS1) -- Courtesy of
