Seruji's Record 61 Secures Trophy

Bandar Seri Begawan - Seruji Haji Setia, the prolific national golfer, has another trophy under his belt after hitting a record 61 gross to take home the Baiduri Masters - Your Charity Golf Event Challenge Trophy in the Overall Gross Category at the Royal Brunei Airlines Golf Club yesterday.

His record 61 gross in the tournament is the best so far for a local golfer in the history of golf in Brunei Darussalam.

Second place went to Hj Shahminan Hj Damit who shot 66, followed by Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim with 69 and Hj Majid Ahmad with 72 gross.

The Overall Nett Championship went to Dennis Koh who hit 71. He was followed closely by Abd KadirAbd Ghani 71 (OCB), Pg Suhaimi Alauddin 71 (OCB) and Hj Osmar Duraman 71 (OCB).

In the Men's Division A, Ak Wira Pg Hj Md Salleh came in first place with 42, followed by Hj Awang Hj Tuah with 38. Pg Hj Zamani shot 37 (OCB) and Simon Newn carded 37 (OCB) to claim third and fourth places respectively.

Imay Hendra managed to come in first in the Men's Division B with 43, followed by Freddie Wong with 41 in second places. Pg Abd Rahman Pg Hj Tuah with 39 came in third place and Lim Han Chiong with 39 OCB was in fourth place.

Paul Yong who hit 43 came in first place in the Senior Division. Hj Sabri Hj Naweh was second with 41, followed by Dato Hj Idris Belaman and Hj Md Yussop Hj Abd Latip.

In the Men's Division C, Hj Rahmat Hj Japar with a score of 42 was crowned the champion. Idris Osman was in second place followed by Hj abd Saman bin Hj Ahmad in third place and Hj Suhaimi Hj Gafar in fourth place.

Aki Sufrin Ibrahim emerged as the champion in Division D when he shot 42 (OCB), followed closely by PA Mohammad with 42 (OCB), while Pg Hj Yakub PHM Salleh was in third place, followed by Alias Duraman.

In the Junior A Category, golf prodigy Young Ren Wee shot a 38 to leadthe field. Khairul Kamis is in second place with 37, while Abd Hakim Hj Shahrum was in third place with 36 points. Young Hong Wee was in fourth place with 34 (OCB).

Mohd Qazzri Fakhri becomes the winner of Junior B with 29 points, and Muhd Haziq Wahiddudin hit 26 points for second place.

In the Ladies Division, Hjh Norhayati Hj Masri was in first place with 41 (OCB), followed by Joan Chin with 41. Nora Pui came in third place while Hjh Rusni Lamat come in fourth place.

For the novelties prizes, Nearest to the Pin on Day 1: the prize at the 2nd hole went to Hambali; 5th hole - Hj Abd Aziz Latif; 12th hole - Pg Mohd Juanda; 14th hole - Toh Keng Seng; and 16th hole - Azrin Mazrah.

Prizes for Nearest to the Pin on Day 2: 2nd hole - Leong Chin Hin; 5th hole - Hj Awang Hj Tuah; 12th hole - Suhaimi Ibrahim; 14th hole - Hj Omar Hj Asmat; and 16th hole - Mohd Jimmy.

Prizes for Nearest to the Pin on Day 3: 2nd hole - Hj Mohd Roger Abdullah; 5th hole - Hj Suhaimi Hj Gafar; 12th hole - Shahnom Hj Ahmad; 14th hole - Lim Soon Bee; and 16th hole - Pg Hj Md Suhaimi.

Prizes for Nearest to the Pin on Day 4: 2nd hole - Hj Mohd Suot Moksin; 5th hole - Tony Ho; 12th hole - Abd Rahim Hj Jumat; 14th hole - Hj Aldani Omar; and 16th hole - Jakib Jumat.

Prizes for Nearest to the Pin on Day 5: 2nd hole - Dr Leslie Ong; 5th hole - Hj Md Zin; 12th hole - Hj Mohd Roger Abdullah; 14th hole - Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim; and 16th hole - Dr Leslie Ong.

Organised by Baiduri Bank Group with the support of its strategic partners, QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Benfood (B), RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd, and media supporter Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, this year's competition attracted 724 golfers, which is the largest in any golf tournament held in Brunei Darussalam.

The event also made history when about $80,000 was collected for charitable organisations such as Special Education Section of the Ministry of Education, SMARTER Brunei, Pusat Ehsan and the Child Development Centre.

In addition, a special wheelchair was presented to Awang Yahya bin Kassim, a house-bound 18-year-old who was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy.

History was also made when golf enthusiast, Elyas Abdullah Tseu, hit a holein-one last Sunday at the Baiduri Masters. He received the keys to his brand new BMW730Li at a prize presentation ceremony. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
